By using a histogram as a Quality Control tool, one can see how their data is distributed and whether it follows a normal or a skewed pattern. Basically, Histograms finds patterns and identifies trends by analyzing the data set and graphically displays it. More specifically, it is a type of Bar Chart that graphs the frequency of occurrence of continuous data, and aids Quality Control teams in making sense of the data recorded on construction sites.

When Quality Control teams come aboard construction projects, they typically use one or more of these tools to identify the key problem areas. The data they collect is projected in terms of which area is giving maximum issues and hence needs troubleshooting. Quality Control teams can also see the change over a period of time by using Histograms as tools. In this way one gets to know the quality performance of a particular contractor or construction team between different projects or on a single project over a period of time.
