Fire hoses, hydrants, alarms, sprinklers, different types of extinguishers and fire panels are some of the active fire protection measures. A fire panel typically activates an emergency response in the event of a fire so that people know there is a fire and can escape the building immediately. However if your office is situated in a commercial building, only setting up a fire panel for your own office or a single floor will not ensure safety of all the building inhabitants. Not integrating individual fire panels to the main fire panel of the building means missing the entire point of activating an emergency response like fire detection and alarm system. Auditors find this glaring mistake in a good number of inspections that are carried out in buildings that have multiple owners. In case of a mall, integration of all the individual fire panels to the building’s main panel would ensure that the automatic doors remain open for people to escape. The condition and general readiness of other active fire protection equipment like automatic sprinklers, water curtain system to put out fires around the building façade, fire hose pressure, valves and pumps, fire extinguishers, fire panel battery backups etc is checked during a fire audit. Providing emergency lighting with an electric supply separate from that of the general supply is another requirement that is overlooked according to our fire safety team.
